Dedications
“I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of Him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.” 1 Samuel 1:27-28
Hannah had believed for a son and the Lord gave her Samuel. She then committed him to God, to live and grow up in the house of God. This set the pattern in place of recognizing that all children belong to the Lord. They are His, given to us parents as a gift to look after.
“When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.” Luke 2:22
Jesus Himself was dedicated in the temple by his parents, establishing dedication as a New Testament principle.
